music portfolio

Welcome to my music and composition portfolio! I've got examples of music I've composed for various game projects, as well as a playlist of music released under my lofi side-project, Odokuro. I love designing interactive music systems in FMOD and Wwise, and writing the music to match them. I've worked on game projects that have allowed me to work within a range of styles utilising different instruments and textures, in particular featuring stringed instruments like basses, ukulele, acoustic and electric guitars, and soft synths and hardware sounds from a Teenage Engineering OP-1. As Odokuro, I've worked on commissions with a number of labels across the genre, had successful placements in high-profile playlists for lofi and chill beats, garnered millions of streams and even been lucky enough to have my music pressed to vinyl.

First Class Rescue - Trail Music System

Here's a little glimpse at the music playback system for a piece I composed for First Class Rescue. It's the "Trail Theme", which plays while you're out adventuring, climbing, and solving puzzles. To minimise fatigue while listening, I implemented an "Intensity" parameter which adds layers to the music as you complete levels, along with a "LoopCount" parameter that controls playback of instruments and sections of the music using trigger behaviours, transition markers and timelines. Melodies and instruments fade in and out, playing back sections a differing number of times and in differing configurations, and moving on to later sections of the track only after cycling through earlier sections a number of times, ensuring the track stays interesting for longer periods of listening. Adjusting the intensity parameter also ensures the track grows as you complete more puzzles. The video shows all of these parameters at work.

Something about Vines and Mazes

Here's the track I created for Something about Vines and Mazes, a puzzle game about a vine growing up a wall, navigating obstacles. It's a chill, easygoing puzzle game, so I went for something warm but mysterious, with an acoustic guitar arpeggio in 7/8 looping throughout contributing to the mood. I recorded wooden percussion, kalimba and singing bowls to accent this tangible, natural feel. The singing bowls were also used as part of the game's sound design, which ties it all together. The track escalates in layers as you solve more puzzles, which happens dynamically as part of the FMOD music system in the game.

Bekka the Bokka

Here's a playlist of the music I composed for Bekka the Bokka. The ukulele was "Bekka's instrument", and I made a point of it carrying the main melodies, doubling up with an acoustic guitar. Bekka's leitmotif shows up across multiple tracks, tying the pieces together. It's broadly playful and bright like the game's aesthetic, but sincere, like the dedicated main character, Bekka. Many sounds were creating using Teenage Engineering's OP-1, and this creates the more moody and mystical atmosphere as Bekka ascends the mountain.

Odokuro

Above is a playlist of music from my lofi alter-ego, Odokuro. Across the range of styles from jazz hop to chill beats, thinking vocally when writing instrumental melodies, enhancing the track's atmosphere, and trying to push what I can do as an instrumentalist is what I try to achieve.
